Chapter 13 Discussion Board
Q What do you think the framers of the American Constitution would say about interest group involvement in contemporary politics? Would they be pleased or disappointed with the evolution of their political design?
If I know anything about the framers' ideas when creating our nation, I think they'd rise up and take arms again to curtail the effect of lobbying groups and PACs in our current election process. These conglomerations raise billions of dollars to invest in "the right people" to gain influence over politics so they can create policy that helps them. This overlooks the republic that we were meant to be. I understand that special interest groups and PACs help move collective action towards an objective, and they also provide tons of information about certain policies that might be overlooked by legislators when creating a new law, but the power that they have to shut out the desires of individual voters is abhorrent.
